author sites
2002-06-19 | 9:18 p.m.

I've found a highly effective weapon against writer's block. Reading writers' websites is an amazing motivation to write my own stuff. So, because I can, I am going to link some of my favourite author sites. This is not a list of my favourite authors, for that, you'll have to look at my profile. This is just a list of author sites I liked. Of course, if they'd never written a book I liked, I wouldn't have looked them up in the first place, now would I?

Jasper Fforde author of the Thursday Next series
Games, interviews, merchandise, downloads, lists of made-up words, fun with SpecOps, Jurisfiction and the all-powerful Goliath Corporation. Way fun.

Kelley Armstrong author of the Women of the Otherworld series.
Contests! Freebies! Sample chapters! Short stories and e-serial prequels to her novels! Who says Canadian writers don't know how to have any fun?

Joanne Bertin author of The Last Dragonlord
I think what I like most about this page are her paintings of herself with the main character from her books. They're cute.

Anne Bishop author of the Black Jewels trilogy and the Tir Alainn trilogy
She has some good information for writers, background on her worlds, sample chapters from her books, even some "deleted scenes" that didn't make the final print editions!

Mindy Klasky author of the Glasswright books
This page has a little less personality than the others, but lots of cool stuff, including sample chapters from all of her books.

Lawrence Hill author of Some Great Thing and Any Known Blood
Probably my favourite Canadian writer. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but lots of information.

Will Ferguson author of Why I Hate Canadians, Happiness(TM) and coauthor of How to Be a Canadian.
The real reason to check this out is the archive of articles he's written for various magazines and newspapers. Some are serious, some satirical, and some are just silly. They're amazing. I only wish I could write like that.

Kristen Britain author of Green Rider
This was the first author's page I visited, because I was so desperate to learn when the Green Rider sequel would be out. Good stuff here, including sample chapters, reviews, reading list.

Holly Lisle author of the Secret Texts Trilogy, among other things.
If you've ever dreamed of being a writer, you should check out her articles, workshops, e-zine, and the Forward Motion writer's group.

Jack McDevitt author of The Engines of God and Infinity Beach
He's got sample chapters and a collection of essays well worth reading.

Mercedes Lackey author of a ridiculous number of books, including the Valdemar series.
Lots of background information on her books, and some original short fiction

Wen Spencer author of the Ukiah Oregon series.
She's got news, links, sample chapters, and some cool little essays on where the ideas for her books came from.

The L-Space Web, devoted to the works of Terry Pratchett
Book information, annotations, artwork, links, assorted crazy fan stuff, and more hilarious quotes than I know what to do with.

This page is connected to my general links page.
