damn you, chapters-indigo-coles megaconglomerate! Oh dear. I was bad today. Very, very bad. I had some out-of-the-lab work to do, and when it was finished, I just headed home. My route took me past a couple of bookstores. I told myself I would just check to see if the slightly-smaller-thus-slightly-cheaper edition of The Big Over Easy was out yet, since my calculations had led me to believe that it would hit the shelves sometime in June or July. I had forgotten that June is buy-three-get-one-free month at Chapters-Indigo-Coles. And, given that there are actually quite a few books I've been wanting to get my hands on, it only made sense to pick a few of them up today, when I could get one of them for free ... right? Pah. I never really have to wonder where my money has gone. My money has gone to the Chapters-Indigo-Coles megaconglomorate, and, to a lesser extent, to various secondhand bookshops. And to HMV and iTunes. Friggin' iTunes. I haven't even been paid yet. Stupid grant-money-mixup has yet to be resolved. Hopefully, since my prof has discovered the exact location of the breakdown, it will be resolved soon. Failing that, I've gone ahead and registered for my courses for next year, so I should be able to get the bank to release the second half of my line of credit. I've got enough in my chequing account to cover rent, phone, and internet for another month. Everything else is going on Visa until I see a paycheque. At any rate, there is one upside to my book buying binge today. Now that the latest Jasper Fforde and Tanya Huff paperbacks are sitting comfortably on my shelf, there are no I'm-counting-down-to-it new releases in sight until October, or whenever it is that the new Tamara Siler Jones comes out. Which means no reason to "just go in to check if it's out yet." See? My spending today was actually a good thing in the long run! And I am a master of rationalization. looking back | looking forward |
