Okay, so it was partly my fault.

Earlier this week, one of the very few men who work in my department came down to our lab to record the very long script we're using for one of the computer games we're developing. We need a variety of voices, male and female, and while female voices are easy to find ... male, not so much.

So, anyway, we got this guy to come down, set him up in the sound booth with the recording equipment, and left him to it.

The sound booth gets very, very hot, and we've taken to opening the door and pulling in a fan between sessions in there, to keep the air moving. We warned the guy about it, and told him that if he got too hot, he should come out and take a break.

Which he did. He poked his head into the lab and asked if he could turn on the fan.

Since we always turn on the fan when there's no one using the sound booth, we said yes.

Never guessing that what he meant was not that he wanted to air out the booth, but that, in fact, he wanted to leave the door open and the fan on while he recorded the rest of the script.

So the second half of his recording is unusable. There's too much background noise from the stupid fan.

Editing that file was supposed to be my non-transcription work for the next day and a half! Now I'm stuck transcribing again! Dammit!

Maybe we can get him back in to re-record it.
