what i learned from my vaccuum cleaner:

The carpet in my apartment is grey. It's that mottled, vaguely blueish rough industrial grey stuff that graces dorm rooms and cheap apartments everywhere.

Here is the thing about this carpet: It does not show dirt.

So, the carpet looks fine. It always looks fine. It never looks like it needs a vaccuuming.

Tonight I decided, so what if it doesn't look like it needs vaccuuming. I have guests coming this week. I'm going to give it a vaccuum.

I had to empty the canister on my vaccumm three times before I finished.

My apartment is tiny. And only half of it is carpeted.

True, my vaccuum is also tiny, but still.

The moral of the story is, just because the carpet doesn't look filthy doesn't mean it isn't filthy.

From now on, I vaccuum every week, regardless of whether I think the place needs it.

The secondary moral of the story is this:

It's Saturday night, and I'm housecleaning (well, okay, apartmentcleaning).

Good gawd, I need a life.

Two-hour chat last night with someone I am going to refer to as "my internet boy" ... a start.

Friends coming this week, plans including dinners and bars and theme parks ... exactly what I need.

I wish you guys were here now!
