the tale of the unused voting card
2006-09-06 | 8:34 p.m.

I went to my first PGSS Council meeting tonight.

It was ... interesting.

Due to some weird email miscommunications, I wasn't actually an official member of the council until about an hour and a half before the start of the meeting. Which meant that I had not seen any of the reports, previous meetings' minutes, or resolutions that I was supposed to have read before showing up. Hell, I never even got to see the agenda.

So, I resoved not to vote on anything during the meeting. In favour of nothing, opposed to nothing, not even officially abstaining from anything. It wouldn't have been responsible. I felt as though I was sticking out like a rusty nail during all of the votes, with my voting card sitting beside me on an empty seat, but what the hell. I still maintain it was the right thing to do.

I did get a chance to chat with a couple of people before the meeting started, which was nice. And exactly why I signed up in the first place. I really need to broaden my circle of friends in this city. Plus, there's free food.

I know absolutely nothing about student government. But I'm going to give it my all this year.

And then I'll never be involved in student government again, because I'll never be a student again. Oh well.
